Puppets for the Young and Young at Heart

A Testimony from Stephanie Jervis

I had a opportunity to go on a trip with the church youth puppet team and youth choir to Virginia Beach, Va. in June. My oldest daughter is a member of the puppet team so I thought it would be a good chance to spend some time with her. I ended up being a chaperone of the 4 girls that went. Even though there were 5 of us girls, we still beat the other 3 guy rooms up in the morning!

We ministered in 2 nursing homes. The “young” folks really enjoyed seeing the puppets and listening to the youth sing and play their guitars. The looks on their faces was priceless. At the end of one of the shows, we offered to let them get their pictures made with the puppets. They all got excited and said that their grandkids and great–grandkids would get a kick out of seeing grandma/grandpa with the puppets. I liked seeing how happy it made them to be involved as an audience. One “young” lady couldn't stand not knowing what was behind the curtain and just got up and took a look for herself. Everyone laughed! She was escorted to her seat by one of the nurses who couldn't stop laughing. We also went to a KOA campground and entertained some small children and their parents. The kids couldn't keep their eyes off of the puppets and when the youth did some hand movements to the music, they would try to copy them. Maybe some of those children have never heard the word?

I really had a good time learning more about the kids and how important the ministry is to them. Teenagers do take some things seriously and I got to see it for myself. It was a great time with my daughters and the other adults who went for one reason or another. We are already talking about doing it again next year, Lord willing.
